Overview

The Giant Causeway Coast Way is an exhilarating walk following the dramatic coastline from Ballycastle to Portstewart in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. This outstanding walking holiday passes along sandy beaches, rocky bays, high cliffs, seaside resorts and small fishing villages, offering a great variety of coastal scenery within the designated Causeway Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The World Heritage Site and National Nature Reserve of the Giant’s Causeway, the ruins of Dunluce, Dunseverick and Kinbane Castles and the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge are among the many sites encountered on this Waymarked Way. This walking holiday is great in its own right but why not include the Moyle Way in the Glens of Antrim to make it a superb 8-day hiking trek!

 

Program

This is a 5-day holiday with 3 walking days or when this walking holiday is done as a continuation from the Glens of Antrim package it has an extra day walking on Rathlin Island which contains superb walks of varying distances and is renowned for it’s sea-bird population.

Day 1:
Arrival in Ballycastle, Antrim (Bus from Belfast or from the Moyle way. Take the ferry from Ballycastle to Rathlin Island and choose one of the walks to enjoy the bird colonies and views of Scotland. Overnight in Ballycastle.

Day 2:
Walk from Ballycastle via Clare Wood and Carrick Island to Ballintoy. Overnight in Ballintoy.

Day 3:
Walk from Ballintoy to Bushmills via White Park Bay beach, Benbane Head, Giant Causeway, and Portballintrae to Bushmills. You can opt for a shorter variant of this walk where we will arrange for a transfer to your B&B, or take the bus into Bushmills. Walking distance approx. 19km or 25km. / 6-7.5 hours / 120m height difference. (please allow up to 2 hours if visiting the Giant Causeway itself)

Day 4:
Leaving Bushmills we walk through Ballintrae and follow the causeway coast way past Dunluce Castle, Curran Strand and Portrush to Portstewart. Walking distance approx. 18km. / 5 hours / 60m height difference.

Day 5:
Leave Portstewart and return to Belfast.
Walking distance: 12km / 3 hours (not including time at Carrick-a-Rede) / Elevation: 178m.

The Carrick a Rede Rope bridge

Carrick a Rede Rope bridge

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge is a rope suspension bridge near Ballintoy, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The bridge links the mainland to the tiny Carrick Island. The site is owned and maintained by the National Trust, spans twenty metres and is thirty metres above the rocks below. An admission fee is charged for crossing the bridge.
