This break is ideal for a midweek or long weekend, especially when arriving into Ireland early on your first day or leaving late on the 4th day. This package includes 4 excellent walks but we are happy to quote you for a 3 walk package if your flights make the schedule a little tight or if you are happy to take a rest day and just put your feet up or explore the region yourself by car should you choose to hire one.
Day 1
Slieve Gullion circle walk – 15km
Arriving in Ireland. There are several transfer options from Dublin and Belfast Airports. see ‘how to get here’ page. We will pick you up from the bus-station in dundalk or we can arrange a transfer from the Airport for an additional fee (please contact us for a competitive quote).
Depending on your arrival time and how prepared you are we can drop you straight at the start point for your first walk Slieve Gullion or we will first drop you to your B&B so you can get your hiking boots on and drop your bags. You will receive your welcome pack with all the walk descriptions and maps.
Day 2
Ravensdale – Lumpers (Cooley): 12km
You will be dropped at the start point for your walk at Ravensdale forest, a steep climb to 508 metres brings you to Black Mountain from where you have a fantastic view over the Slieve Gullion ring volcanic crater, to the south you can see the Dublin Mountains and north you get the first glimpse of Slieve Foye above Carlingford and the Mourne mountains. You walk along this ridge line where you will find 2 Cairns before descending to the Lumpers and where you will be picked up for a transfer back to your B&B.
Day 3
Lumpers to Carlingford 18km
You will be dropped at the start of your walk and enjoy a great walk to the top of The Castle (383m.) and across the central Cooley valley before climbing over the Barnavave mountain (350m.) and Maeve’s gap into Carlingford. You will spend the night in carlingford. (Bagage transfer included).
Day 4
Slieve Foye 10km (optional)
Leave from Carlingford.
